BBQ Set Pre-Order
For the past eight years, we’ve marked the start of grilling season with a batch of BBQ knives. This year’s release will be the last for a while, as we let some of our annual projects lie fallow and make space for new ideas we’ve been wanting to explore.
As these editions tend to sell out quickly, we’re doing things slightly differently this time to make sure everyone has a fair chance to secure one.
- Pre-orders open for 2 weeks (closing 21st April)
- £100 deposit to secure a knife or set
- Balance payable once ready to ship (invoice with payment link)
- Sets available, alongside individual knives and tools
- All orders aimed to ship by mid-May
About the Project
This year’s BBQ set builds on Rich’s distinctive design from last year, expanding the line-up while refining the details that made it stand out.
Departing from our usual full-tang construction, the knives feature a wrought iron bolster and a considered combination of steels that give the set its own character.
The blades are forged from a laminate of Blenheim Black, clad in low-carbon steel and interlaced with thin layers of high-carbon spring steel. Custom press tools are used partway through forging to introduce grooves into the billet. Once ground back, these reveal a subtle rippled ladder pattern across both the faces and bevels.
Alongside the long, thick-spined slicer and fine-tipped boning knife, this year introduces a cleaver. Heavy, with a thick spine and forward weight, it’s built for breaking down joints, working through cartilage, and handling the heavier prep before anything hits the grill. It also lends itself to serving, whether that’s chopping through a spatchcocked chicken or portioning meat straight off the fire.
The supporting tools follow the same thinking. A wide, oversized spatula designed for proper grill work, from scraping bars clean to flipping larger cuts. And a pair of forged tongs, inspired by the Burgon & Ball sheep shears once produced on our rolling mill in its previous life, reworked here into something equally at home by the fire. There’s a great short film on that history HERE.
Each set comes with a heavy-duty canvas roll and individual leather sheaths, made by Deptford-based leatherworker Harry Owen.
