Your knife is only as good as your sharpening skills. On this course we’ll explain the importance of different whetstones and teach the basic technique to get a razor sharp edge on any blade using Japanese whetstones. We’ll advise on how to maintain the knives after they’ve been sharpened, show you around the workshop and explain a bit about the knife making process.

This class is designed for people who already have a grasp of the basics of sharpening, but want to take it further.
We’ll look at some more advanced techniques of knife sharpening and thinning, as well as polishing and the use of natural whetstones. The second hour of the class is tailored on the day to look in more detail at any specific things you want to cover. So feel free to bring along any types of knives, tools, or stones that you’d like to learn more about. Though our own test knives, synthetic and natural stones will also be provided.
